Mental Health First Aid

Wednesday, September 25, 2024 1:00 PM - Thursday, September 26, 2024 5:00 PM (CDT)

Description

Mental Health First Aid is a public education program that teaches you how to Identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This 8-hour training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.

We want to make Mental Health First Aid as common as CPR classes. We want to empower all of our community members to respond to the mental health needs of the people around them. Having knowledge of Mental Health First Aid can help prevent suicide, hospitalization, or mental health and substance use crisis.

In this class, you'll learn more than just how to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health or substance use, but also develop an action plan, and identify resources in your immediate area that you can turn to or recommend to friends and loved ones.

Everyone knows they need to go to the hospital when they have a broken arm, but not everyone knows they can go to Pawnee's Crisis Stabilization Unit if they are having a panic attack.
