Description
February Lattes with Leadership features Karla Hagemeister, Executive Director at the Flint Hills Bread Basket. $5 Hype Non-Members. Free for Hype Members. Learn more about Karla below.
Karla joined the Flint Hills Breadbasket team as the Executive Director in March 2022. She came to Manhattan as a K State student and never left. Prior to her time at the Breadbasket, she served for 22 years as a Victim/Witness Coordinator at the Riley County Attorney’s Office. She’s been a member of the USD 383 Manhattan-Ogden board of education since January 2018, serving two years as the board president, first in 2020 and again in 2023. She has served on the boards for multiple nonprofits, including The Crisis Center, True Colors, Manhattan Day Care and Learning Center, and the Riley County Sexual Assault Response Team.
In addition to her regular duties as the Executive Director, Karla is also actively engaged in a capital campaign to raise the funds needed to renovate and equip the new Breadbasket location. She’s applied experiences and learning from her time as a school board member reviewing numerous construction projects to the design, budget, and planning for a space that will serve our community for many years. She is one class away from completion of a Graduate Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership from the Staley School at KSU, which she saw as an opportunity to grow in her capacity as a community leader.
Her husband, Scott, is a sergeant with the Riley County Police Department. They have two children- Jakob and Emmaly, and two dogs. She’s an introvert whose idea of an ideal weekend is a hammock, an iced latte, and a pile of books. The family and dogs can stay, but only if they are sleeping or quietly doing their own thing nearby.
