Enjoy fresh coffee and pastries while connecting with fellow young professionals in a space designed for learning, inspiration, and meaningful conversation. We are pleased to welcome Nathaniel Birkhead as our September speaker.
Dr. Nathaniel Birkhead is Professor and Head of the Department of Political Science at Kansas State University. A Colorado native, he earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Colorado and his Ph.D. in Political Science from Indiana University. An award-winning educator and University Distinguished Teaching Scholar, Dr. Birkhead teaches courses on American politics, political participation, the presidency, Congress, and state and local government. His research examines the relationship between citizens and their elected officials, with a particular focus on Congress, state legislatures, and political representation. He is the co-author of Congress in Reverse: Repeals from Reconstruction to the Present and has published extensively in leading political science journals, with research supported by the National Science Foundation. During this session, Dr. Birkhead will explore how civic engagement has evolved for young professionals, including the growing role of social media in connecting with elected officials and participating in the political process. He will also provide practical, nonpartisan resources for voter registration, voting, and staying informed and engaged in civic life.
